Megan Anna Rapinoe was born on the 5th of July, 1985, in Redding California. In her teens, she began playing soccer. She then attended the University of Portland in Oregon along with her twin sister fraternal Rachael Rapinoe. Megan Rapinoe is a former top soccer player at the University. She was among the top women's soccer scorers in America. A knee injury forced Megan Rapinoe's to miss a part of her junior and sophomore seasons. In her senior year she took on every match returning to her sport full time. In 2008, she earned her degree with a bachelor's degree in Sociology at Portland's University of Portland. Rapinoe began her soccer career in 2009 after she was drafted by the Chicago Illinois Red Stars, a newly-formed Women's Professional Soccer WPS League team, drafted Rapinoe. The team was in operation until late 2010, when the team was disbanded. Rapinoe spent a brief time playing for The Philadelphia Pennsylvania Independence before being transferred to the Boca Raton Florida MagicJack. The magicJack placed third in the year after Rapinoe's two scores. The team folded in the latter part of 2011. magicJack folded and in early 2012, the same happened to WPS. Rapinoe began performing within the Australian W-League with Sydney Football Club FC before moving back in the United States. Then, she played with the Seattle Washington Sounders Women - currently Sound FC. She was in France in 2013 during the football season. She was then a part of the Seattle Reign FC now OL Reign of the National Women's Soccer League NWSL that was formed following the WPS split up. Rapinoe also competed on an international level. She was on the 2012 U.S. Olympic women's soccer team which competed in London England. At those Olympics Rapinoe helped lead the team to gold medal with several game-winning assists or goals. In 2016, she participated in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The U.S. Team was defeated in the quarterfinals of Rio. The first time Rapinoe played in the FIFA Women's World Cup was in the year 2011. Her efforts contributed to the U.S. team win consecutive Women's World Cup championships in 2015 and in 2019. In 2018, she was cocaptain of the team. Rapinoe was able to score two goals when the United States beat Australia 4-3 in the bronze medal game during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Japan had been delayed from their participation in the Olympics until 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
